September 16th – Building a Rich Mosaic of Grassland and Woodland for Our Community Food Web, Wednesday, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

The Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust has managed warm-season grasslands and mixed mesophytic woodlands for more than 30 years. After decades of restoring forests and conserving land for birds and other wildlife, we are expanding our focus to develop diverse plant structure and food resources for insects, which form the foundation of the preserve’s food web. Staff have been establishing diverse forest stands of varying ages, adding perennials to established grasslands, and considering how these habitats work together to support wildlife throughout different stages of their life cycles. Meet the land managers and the scientist leading this work during a two-hour, moderately paced hike over rolling terrain, rain or shine.
