Eco-Mindfulness and Sweetgrass – Monthly 3-Part Series
Saturdays June 15th, July 20th, August 17th, 10:00 AM to 11:45 AM
Come join us this Summer as we practice Mindfulness and Nature meditation together along with a monthly book discussion of Robin Wall Kimmerer’s best-selling book Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants. Kimmerer beautifully weaves together indigenous story-telling and wisdom from Nature with knowledge based on her own professional background as an ecologist.
Each session will include a short guided sitting meditation, a Mindful slow walk in the woods (weather permitting), and a discussion of one chapter of the book (June 15th – Chapter 18, In the Footsteps of Nanabozho: Becoming Indigenous to Place; July 20th – Chapter 28, People of Corn, People of Light; August 17th – Chapter 30, Shkitagen: People of the Seventh Fire). Each chapter is written as a stand-alone essay, so feel free to read as much of the book as you would like. Participants are encouraged to bring their own questions and thoughts to share.
The sessions will be facilitated by naturalist Erica Blatt, who has her PhD in Environmental Education and is certified in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. Please bring a chair or mat (for the outdoors) that is comfortable for you. We will meet indoors if there is inclement weather.
This program is limited to 12 participants. No previous experience necessary. Cost is $75 for Members. $90 for Non-members. Registration for all three sessions preferred, but individual session sign-up is available. $35 for individual sessions.
