Eco-Mindfulness and Nature’s Best Hope Book Discussion – Monthly 3-Part Series
Saturdays December 21st, January 11th, February 8th, 10:15 am – 12:00 pm
Come join us this Winter to learn more about Eco-Mindfulness, and to participate in a monthly book discussion of Douglas W. Tallamy’s insightful, best-selling book Nature’s Best Hope: A New Approach to Conservation that Starts in Your Yard. Tallamy discusses the need for a Land Ethic, as described by Aldo Leopold, that is enacted in our own yards. He argues for the planting of native species to grow the corridors that are available for pollinators and other species, as we each do our part to restore ecosystem function. Each session will include a short guided sitting meditation, a Mindful slow walk in the woods (weather permitting), and a discussion of one section of the book (Dec 21st – Chapters 1-4; Jan 11th – Chapters 5-6; February 8th – Chapters 7-11). Participants are encouraged to bring their own questions and thoughts to share. The sessions will be facilitated by naturalist Erica Blatt, who has her PhD in Environmental Education and is certified in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. Feel free to bring a mat or chair that is comfortable for you, or card chairs will be available. This program is limited to 12 participants. No previous experience necessary. Classes will meet in the Visitor’s Center. Cost for the 3-Part Series is $60 for Members. $75 for Non-members. Registration for all three sessions preferred, but individual session sign-up is available.
