Eco-Mindfulness and Sweetgrass – 3 Part Series
Saturdays June 20th, July 18th, August 22nd from 10-11:45 am
Come join us this Summer as we engage in Mindfulness and Nature-based meditation practices together, along with a monthly book discussion of Robin Wall Kimmerer’s best-selling book Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants. Kimmerer beautifully weaves together indigenous story-telling and wisdom from Nature with knowledge based on her own professional background as an ecologist.
Each session will include a short guided sitting meditation, a Mindful slow walk in the woods (weather permitting), and a discussion of one chapter of the book (June 20th – Skywoman Falling, Chapter 1; July 18th – The Gift of Strawberries, Chapter 3; August 22nd – Old-Growth Children, Chapter 24). Participants are encouraged to bring their own questions and thoughts to share. The sessions will be facilitated by naturalist Erica Blatt, who has her PhD in Environmental Education and is certified in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. Please bring a chair or mat (for the outdoors) that is comfortable for you. We will meet indoors if there is inclement weather. This program is limited to 15 participants. No previous experience necessary. Cost is $75 for Members. $90 for Non-members. Registration for all three sessions preferred, but individual session sign-up is available.
