Event Details

June 7th – Tour of MacPhee Wildlife Sanctuary, Friday, 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM

The Pennypack Trust has begun stewarding the Margaret V. MacPhee Wildlife Sanctuary to address its various ecological management needs. Like much of the Pennypack Preserve, the 38-acre property was open farmland in the 18th century. In 1905, Andrew Vinton Brown, a successful lens grinder in Philadelphia, purchased the property as a country estate with elegant gardens and reflecting pools. As the third generation, Margaret MacPhee was committed to converting the land into an arboretum and wildlife preserve. The Trust intends to honor Margaret’s legacy by restoring native diversity and improving wildlife habitat quality.  Join Pennypack Trust staff on a tour to see the progress that has been made in the invaded meadow, bamboo thicket and estate ruins. For Pennypack Trust members only. Limited to 18 participants. Pre-registration is required. $5 Per person.
