February 21st- Service Day, Monday, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Lend a hand in the Pennypack Preserve for a few hours of service. Volunteers will work with Pennypack Trust staff to move recycled Christmas Trees (from Upper Moreland Township) to impaired stream beds, also known as tree revetments, which help stabilize unprotected stream banks and prevent further erosion by slowing down the speed of the water at the base of the bank and allowing sediment held in the water to be deposited. Over time, this will help rebuild the bank and allow vegetation to become established. Please plan to arrive around 9:45 AM so everyone has time to find parking and find the group. We plan to start the event at 10:05 AM with a short talk about the project followed by a hike to the location we will be working. You will need to dress for the weather, bring gloves (sturdy enough to handle Christmas Trees), sturdy shoes that can get messy, and a water bottle. Dress in layers, wear sturdy boots, and bring sturdy gloves. Groups and individuals are welcome. Registration required by February 17th.
